Frances Ridley Havergal: Hymn Writer By Esther Enoch Published by Ambassador Emerald House
The Touching Story of One of England's Favourite Hymn Writers
Frances Ridley Havergal has had a profound influence over the hearts of Christians for well over a century. Miss Havergal became a brilliant singer and pianist who dedicated her life and talents to the Lord.
Miss Havergal longed for a deeper knowledge of God and was brought to see that she could not have the full blessedness of a Christian life without a full surrender to Christ. In 1874 she wrote the beautiful consecration hymn:
Take my life and let it be,
Consecrated Lord to Thee,
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
This gifted and truly consecrated woman died in Wales at the age of forty-three. On her tombstone is engraved, as she herself wished, her favourite text, 'The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin.'
